- Character name
Completely your choice and up to you.
- Character race
You may choose from the selection on the races page.
- Of these, birdfolk, dragonfolk, fairies, magic creatures and pegasus centaurs have flight. Dragonfolk choose whether or not to have flight upon generation. This choice may not be changed during the game.
- Character starting class
You may choose from the selection on the classes page
- You'll see that each class has a list of qualifying races - this is compiled according to SF3 characters, with a bit of SF1/SFCD/SF2 influence. This is merely a guideline, and can be dropped if you so wish. For example, my game Darkness Rising had restrictions, whilst Ancient Pathways did not.
- If you decide to drop restrictions, there is one thing you should bear in mind, and that is adjusting a character's movement range. After all, it doesn't make sense to have a halfling knight with 7 move. There's no clear guideline on how to shift this statistic, though you could have race influence it. In any case, it's certainly something to consider.

- Elemental proficiency (from high to low)
Every character, even those who aren't casters, have some degree of resistance against the magical elements. So you arrange from high to low how this will be for your character. The six elements are fire, ice, lightning, wind, light and dark.
- Desired spells
As with Shining Force 3, casters have three spells that are learnt. The fourth comes from an equipped weapon. Spells available depend on the casting class.
See this page here for how to pick spells.
Spell availability is at the bottom of the page, there are hyperlinks to the spell pages at the top of the page. Any confusion, just ask me.
- Any questions on stuff that doesn't make sense? Just ask! I hope it was easy enough though! Any questions on if you can do something not listed here? Just ask!
