Larinia Map

Arashnor: Though only recently the most populated city in the North, it has long been the capital, location to the Northern Palace and the largest settlement. It has recently become the most populated area, as people have flocked there seeking protection from the rising Darkness.

Brarwyn: This used to be the most populous part of the North. Though no longer having more people than Arashnor, it is still a place of bustling activity, as it is the primary port for the North. Trade comes and goes frequently to Eristo, despite the dangers of sea travel due to the Darkness.

The Lighthouse: Not too far offshore from Brarwyn this was constructed roughly a year before the Darkness appeared. Extremely useful to the fishermen and travellers, the guiding light has saved many lives. Relatively few people live on the island, but they are well stocked and protected against some of the creatures that have recently appeared in the caves on the south of the island.

Ilikit: Due to its size, many people believed the fairly small town of Ilikit would have been abandoned by now, its inhabitants relocating to Arashnor. However, due to their proximity to the North Forest, they have some measure of support from the elves and have constructed effective defences. However, the diminutive settlement is hard pressed at the best of times, yet there is optimism that they have lasted thus far, and should be able to continue to do so.

Ryhope: Another fairly small town, Ryhope remains inhabited due to the lake it is next to, which is a valuable source of food. It has not yet been razed to the ground as a sizable force of soldiers from Arashnor is stationed there. They do their best to protect the town, and a good portion of them travel with the infrequent caravans to the capital.

Sparshalt: The largest and most populated city of the South, it is well protected by walls thick and high and by its large army or warriors, wizards and priests. Like Arashnor, its population has also swollen due to people evacuating their home towns, but on a smaller scale.

Annivis: The second largest city in the South, it is home to an impressively large harbour. It was from Annivis that may people made their way to the West (see below). Since communications to the west have been severed, talk of sending a ship to Surermus has arisen, though no action as of yet has been planned. Being large, there is a sturdy city wall (though that doesn't compare to Sparshalt's) it has many soldiers to protect it.

Annivis has green fields surrounding it from one side and the ocean on another. Tall spires and towers adorn it, along with massive docks. There is an abundance of shops and taverns in the wondrously built and colourful city.

Eristo: A town of medium size, it is an important place of trade, as the sea trade route between the North and South is linked from Brarwyn to Eristo. Due to this importance, there are a fair few soldiers stationed there, most from Sparshalt. Also, the town lacks an effective defensive wall, furthering the need for armed personnel.

The three settlements in the West are what remain of three cities of the Ancient's. For so long they remained empty and devoid of habitation. About ten years ago however, it was decided to repopulate them. People from the North and South travelled there, some to seek new lives, some who were disgruntled with where they currently lived, and some who were merely interested in what might be found there. Before the Darkness arrived, communications were fairly frequent, though travelling across the wastelands is never fun. Since the Darkness appeared and grew stronger, messages have come less and less often. Growing concerned, the North sent a small group of messengers to the West to gain news of what was going on there, but they never returned. Since then, there has been no word from Merisden, or the other two settlements.

The North Forest: The only really sizable forest in the north of Larinia, it is home to a fairly large amount of elves, who are in essence, nomads in the forest, moving constantly to avoid the monsters the darkness brings. There are a couple of permanent settlements in the woods. One, Oryr, is near the northern borders, close to the route from Arashnor to Brarwyn. They have been under an almost constant attack recently, and have sent a messenger to the northern capital, requesting help.

The South Forest: Like the North Forest, this is home to quite a few elves, though they tend to be more reclusive that their northern cousins. They are sometimes seen in Eristo however, bartering and purchasing produce and weapons.

The north-western mountains are home to a small, but powerful tribe of dragonmen. As such, they are often referred to as the Draconic Mountains. In ages past, the mountains were inhabited by a tribe of lizardmen, who were thrown out of their territory and now occupy the small forest at the base of the mountains. There is a longlasting grudge between the two tribes, and they are almost constantly at conflict with each other. Though outsiders rarely become involved in this conflict, people of good nature would side with the dragonmen.

The southern mountain range is vast, full of tunnels and caves and many creatures are scattered throughout the peaks. One of the more notable of these is a clan of dwarves, who work a vast mine near their community. Venturing into the mines has become more dangerous as of late, due to monsters taking up residence in there.

The eastern mountains are generally uninhabited due to the difficult of scaling them. However, one of the highest mountain tops in the region has been converted and is used as an aerie for a community of birdmen.

Solaris: Also known as the Island of Light, it is a fair distance out to sea. It is known that there's a Temple on the island, though it has been a long time since anybody has viewed it. Recently though, it can be seen by fishermen and by those living on the Lighthouse Island that the Darkness has receded from the Island and it seems to glow on the horizon.

The Temple: At a point between where the three Larinian mountain ranges meet, there is a strange construction. Only a few metres high, this Temple has no visible entrances, so it has long been theorised that the opening is underground. Excavations have been attempted, but due to the hard rock of the ground in that area, they have been so far unsuccessful.

The Shrine: To the east and slightly north of Sparshalt is a fairly small Shrine. The place has been sealed for a long time, and it is not known how to open it. The Darkness that covers the land seems particularly strong about the Shrine.
